Considerations and Paperwork
Candidates have the option of paying a $100 filing fee, or colleting petition signatures of Norvell Township Residents who are registered to vote. For a township the size of Norvell, you will probably only need to gather less than 10 signatures. Verify the actual number of signatures required, and obtain a petition through Ms. Crews.

Contact Election Director Crews for a clean copy.
On your Statement of Organization, you will need to determine if you want to opt for the Reporting Waiver. You will opt for the reporting waiver if your candidate committee does not expect to spend or receive more than $1,000 this election cycle. Most small township candidates will not exceed $1,000, but it's up to you to decide and select the appropriate box.
Once a candidate fills out and files an Affidavit of Identity and a Statement of Organization, you will need to do the following:
- Secure an EIN (Employer Identification Number) from the IRS (you can do this online)
- Setup a bank account under your committee’s name and EIN
This may seem more overwhelming than it is. Again, reach out to Election Director Crews for more information.
